How To Install openvswitch-dev on Kali Linux

What is openvswitch-dev

Open vSwitch is a production quality, multilayer, software-based, Ethernet virtual switch. It is designed to enable massive network automation through programmatic extension, while still supporting standard management interfaces and protocols (e.g. NetFlow, sFlow, SPAN, RSPAN, CLI, LACP, 802.1ag). In addition, it is designed to support distribution across multiple physical servers similar to VMware’s vNetwork distributed vswitch or Cisco’s Nexus 1000V.
This package provides openvswitch headers and libopenvswitch for developers.
There are three methods to install openvswitch-dev on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install openvswitch-dev Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install openvswitch-dev using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install openvswitch-devInstall openvswitch-dev Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt updateAfter updating apt database, We can install openvswitch-dev using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install openvswitch-devInstall openvswitch-dev Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude updateAfter updating apt database, We can install openvswitch-dev using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install openvswitch-devHow To Uninstall openvswitch-dev on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the openvswitch-dev package we can use the following command:

To uninstall openvswitch-dev and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove openvswitch-devRemove openvswitch-dev Configurations and Data
To remove openvswitch-dev configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge openvswitch-devRemove openvswitch-dev configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove openvswitch-dev configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
