How To Install openvswitch-dev on Debian 9

Open vSwitch is a production quality, multilayer, software-based, Ethernet virtual switch. It is designed to enable massive network automation through programmatic extension, while still supporting standard management interfaces and protocols (e.g. NetFlow, sFlow, SPAN, RSPAN, CLI, LACP, 802.1ag). In addition, it is designed to support distribution across multiple physical servers similar to VMware’s vNetwork distributed vswitch or Cisco’s Nexus 1000V.
This package provides openvswitch headers and libopenvswitch for developers.
There are three methods to install openvswitch-dev on Debian 9. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install openvswitch-dev Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install openvswitch-dev using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install openvswitch-dev
Install openvswitch-dev Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install openvswitch-dev using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install openvswitch-dev
Install openvswitch-dev Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install openvswitch-dev using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install openvswitch-dev
How To Uninstall openvswitch-dev on Debian 9
To uninstall only the openvswitch-dev package we can use the following command:
