What is openvswitch-common
openvswitch-common is:
Open vSwitch is a production quality, multilayer, software-based, Ethernet virtual switch. It is designed to enable massive network automation through programmatic extension, while still supporting standard management interfaces and protocols (e.g. NetFlow, IPFIX, sFlow, SPAN, RSPAN, CLI, LACP, 802.1ag). In addition, it is designed to support distribution across multiple physical servers similar to VMware’s vNetwork distributed vswitch or Cisco’s Nexus 1000V.
openvswitch-common provides components required by both openvswitch-switch and openvswitch-testcontroller.
There are three methods to install openvswitch-common
on Debian 12. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude

Install openvswitch-common Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install openvswitch-common
using apt-get

sudo apt-get -y install openvswitch-common

After updating apt database, We can install openvswitch-common

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install openvswitch-common
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install openvswitch-common
How To Uninstall openvswitch-common on Debian 12
