How To Install openssl-pkcs11 on CentOS 7

In this tutorial we learn how to install openssl-pkcs11 on CentOS 7.
What is openssl-pkcs11
openssl-pkcs11 enables hardware security module (HSM), and smart card support in OpenSSL applications. More precisely, it is an OpenSSL engine which makes registered PKCS#11 modules available for OpenSSL applications. The engine is optional and can be loaded by configuration file, command line or through the OpenSSL ENGINE API.
We can use yum or dnf to install openssl-pkcs11 on CentOS 7. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install openssl-pkcs11.
Install openssl-pkcs11 on CentOS 7 Using yum
Update yum database with yum using the following command.
sudo yum makecache
After updating yum database, We can install openssl-pkcs11 using yum by running the following command:
sudo yum -y install openssl-pkcs11
Install openssl-pkcs11 on CentOS 7 Using dnf
If you don’t have dnf installed you can install DNF on CentOS 7 first.
Update yum database with dnf using the following command.
sudo dnf makecache
After updating yum database, We can install openssl-pkcs11 using dnf by running the following command:
sudo dnf -y install openssl-pkcs11
How To Uninstall openssl-pkcs11 on CentOS 7
To uninstall only the openssl-pkcs11 package we can use the following command:
sudo dnf remove openssl-pkcs11
