How To Install openssh on AlmaLinux 8
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install openssh
on AlmaLinux 8.
What is openssh
SSH (Secure SHell) is a program for logging into and executing commands on a remote machine. SSH is intended to replace rlogin and rsh, and to provide secure encrypted communications between two untrusted hosts over an insecure network. X11 connections and arbitrary TCP/IP ports can also be forwarded over the secure channel. OpenSSH is OpenBSD’s version of the last free version of SSH, bringing it up to date in terms of security and features. This package includes the core files necessary for both the OpenSSH client and server. To make this package useful, you should also install openssh-clients, openssh-server, or both.
We can use yum
or dnf
to install openssh
on AlmaLinux 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install openssh.
Install openssh on AlmaLinux 8 Using dnf
Update yum database with dnf
using the following command.
sudo dnf makecache --refresh
After updating yum database, We can install openssh
using dnf
by running the following command:
sudo dnf -y install openssh
Install openssh on AlmaLinux 8 Using yum
Update yum database with yum
using the following command.
sudo yum makecache --refresh
After updating yum database, We can install openssh
using yum
by running the following command:
sudo yum -y install openssh
How To Uninstall openssh on AlmaLinux 8
To uninstall only the openssh
package we can use the following command:
sudo dnf remove openssh
