In this tutorial we learn how to install opensm on CentOS 7.

What is opensm

OpenSM is the OpenIB project’s Subnet Manager for Infiniband networks. The subnet manager is run as a system daemon on one of the machines in the infiniband fabric to manage the fabric’s routing state. This package also contains various tools for diagnosing and testing Infiniband networks that can be used from any machine and do not need to be run on a machine running the opensm daemon.

We can use yum or dnf to install opensm on CentOS 7. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install opensm.

Install opensm on CentOS 7 Using yum

Update yum database with yum using the following command.

sudo yum makecache

After updating yum database, We can install opensm using yum by running the following command:

sudo yum -y install opensm

Install opensm on CentOS 7 Using dnf

If you don’t have dnf installed you can install DNF on CentOS 7 first. Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache

After updating yum database, We can install opensm using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install opensm

How To Uninstall opensm on CentOS 7

To uninstall only the opensm package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove opensm
