In this tutorial we learn how to install openslp-server on CentOS 7.
What is openslp-server
Service Location Protocol is an IETF standards track protocol that provides a framework that allows networking applications to discover the existence, location, and configuration of networked services in enterprise networks. This package contains the SLP server. Every system, which provides any services that should be used via an SLP client must run this server and register the service.
We can use yum or dnf to install openslp-server on CentOS 7. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install openslp-server.
Install openslp-server on CentOS 7 Using yum
Update yum database with yum using the following command.
sudo yum makecache
After updating yum database, We can install openslp-server using yum by running the following command:
sudo yum -y install openslp-server
Install openslp-server on CentOS 7 Using dnf
If you don’t have dnf installed you can install DNF on CentOS 7 first.
Update yum database with dnf using the following command.
sudo dnf makecache
After updating yum database, We can install openslp-server using dnf by running the following command:
sudo dnf -y install openslp-server
How To Uninstall openslp-server on CentOS 7
To uninstall only the openslp-server package we can use the following command:
sudo dnf remove openslp-server
