How To Install opensc on CentOS 8

In this tutorial we learn how to install opensc on CentOS 8.
What is opensc
OpenSC provides a set of libraries and utilities to work with smart cards. Its main focus is on cards that support cryptographic operations, and facilitate their use in security applications such as authentication, mail encryption and digital signatures. OpenSC implements the PKCS#11 API so applications supporting this API (such as Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird) can use it. We can use yum or dnf to install opensc on CentOS 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install opensc.
Install opensc on CentOS 8 Using yum
Update yum database with yum using the following command.
sudo yum makecache
After updating yum database, We can install opensc using yum by running the following command:
sudo yum -y install opensc
Install opensc on CentOS 8 Using dnf
If you don’t have dnf installed you can install DNF on CentOS 7 first.
Update yum database with dnf using the following command.
sudo dnf makecache
After updating yum database, We can install opensc using dnf by running the following command:
sudo dnf -y install opensc
How To Uninstall opensc on CentOS 8
To uninstall only the opensc package we can use the following command:
sudo dnf remove opensc
