What is openni2-utils

openni2-utils is:

OpenNI2 is a framework for getting data to support ‘Natural Interaction’, i.e. skeleton tracking, gesture tracking, and similar ways of getting data from humans. OpenNI2 provides the interface for physical devices and for middleware components. The API enables modules to be registered in the OpenNI2 framework, which then produce sensory data. OpenNI2 also allows selection of different hardware and middleware modules.

This package provides a number of related utilities for debugging, testing, and view the results of the sensor modules.

There are three methods to install openni2-utils on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install openni2-utils using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install openni2-utils

How To Uninstall openni2-utils on Ubuntu 18.04

To uninstall only the openni2-utils package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove openni2-utils

To uninstall openni2-utils and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove openni2-utils

Remove openni2-utils Configurations and Data

To remove openni2-utils configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge openni2-utils

Remove openni2-utils configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove openni2-utils configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge openni2-utils
