How To Install openhpi on Ubuntu 20.04
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install openhpi on Ubuntu 20.04.
What is openhpi
openhpi is:
OpenHPI is an implementation of the Service Availability Forum’s Hardware Platform Interface (HPI) specification. (See http://www.saforum.org) As such, OpenHPI facilitates the development of computer manageability applications which are not tied to a single hardware vendor’s products.
HPI provides an abstracted interface for managing computer hardware, typically for chassis and rack based servers. HPI includes resource modeling; access to and control over sensor, control, watchdog, and inventory data associated with resources; abstracted System Event Log interfaces; hardware events and alerts; and a managed hotswap interface.
This package is a metapackage which installs all of the OpenHPI components.
There are three methods to install openhpi on Ubuntu 20.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install openhpi Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install openhpi using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install openhpi
Install openhpi Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install openhpi using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install openhpi
Install openhpi Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install openhpi using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install openhpi
How To Uninstall openhpi on Ubuntu 20.04
To uninstall only the openhpi package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove openhpi
Uninstall openhpi And Its Dependencies
To uninstall openhpi and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 20.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove openhpi
Remove openhpi Configurations and Data
To remove openhpi configuration and data from Ubuntu 20.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge openhpi
Remove openhpi configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove openhpi configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge openhpi
