How To Install openafs-krb5 on Ubuntu 18.04

on Ubuntu 18.04.
What is openafs-krb5
openafs-krb5 is:
AFS is a distributed filesystem allowing cross-platform sharing of files among multiple computers. Facilities are provided for access control, authentication, backup and administrative management.
This package provides aklog, a utility for authenticating to AFS using Kerberos 5. It also provides asetkey, a utility to set AFS server keys from a Kerberos keytab, and ka-forwarder, a utility to forward kaserver requests to a KDC using fakeka.
There are three methods to install openafs-krb5
on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude

Install openafs-krb5 Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install openafs-krb5
using apt-get

sudo apt-get -y install openafs-krb5

Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install openafs-krb5
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install openafs-krb5
Install openafs-krb5 Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install openafs-krb5
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install openafs-krb5
How To Uninstall openafs-krb5 on Ubuntu 18.04
To uninstall only the openafs-krb5
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove openafs-krb5
Uninstall openafs-krb5 And Its Dependencies
To uninstall openafs-krb5
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove openafs-krb5
Remove openafs-krb5 Configurations and Data
To remove openafs-krb5
configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge openafs-krb5
Remove openafs-krb5 configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove openafs-krb5
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge openafs-krb5
