Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install octave-fpl on Ubuntu 18.04.

What is octave-fpl

octave-fpl is:

FPL is a collection of routines for plotting data on finite element method (FEM) meshes. It provides routines for outputting files and displaying data in OpenDX (IBM Visualization Data Explorer) and VTK (Visualization Toolkit) formats. It allows displays of triangular and tetrahedral meshes, as well as scalar and 2D vector fields.

This Octave add-on package is part of the Octave-Forge project.

There are three methods to install octave-fpl on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install octave-fpl Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install octave-fpl using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install octave-fpl

Install octave-fpl Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install octave-fpl using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install octave-fpl

Install octave-fpl Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install octave-fpl using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install octave-fpl

How To Uninstall octave-fpl on Ubuntu 18.04

To uninstall only the octave-fpl package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove octave-fpl

Uninstall octave-fpl And Its Dependencies

To uninstall octave-fpl and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove octave-fpl

Remove octave-fpl Configurations and Data

To remove octave-fpl configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge octave-fpl

Remove octave-fpl configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove octave-fpl configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge octave-fpl
