How To Install octave on CentOS 7
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install octave
on CentOS 7.
What is octave
GNU Octave is a high-level language, primarily intended for numerical computations. It provides a convenient command line interface for solving linear and nonlinear problems numerically, and for performing other numerical experiments using a language that is mostly compatible with Matlab. It may also be used as a batch-oriented language. Octave has extensive tools for solving common numerical linear algebra problems, finding the roots of nonlinear equations, integrating ordinary functions, manipulating polynomials, and integrating ordinary differential and differential-algebraic equations. It is easily extensible and customizable via user-defined functions written in Octave’s own language, or using dynamically loaded modules written in C++, C, Fortran, or other languages.
We can use yum
or dnf
to install octave
on CentOS 7. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install octave.
Install octave on CentOS 7 Using yum
Update yum database with yum
using the following command.
sudo yum makecache
After updating yum database, We can install octave
using yum
by running the following command:
sudo yum -y install octave
Install octave on CentOS 7 Using dnf
If you don’t have dnf installed you can install DNF on CentOS 7 first.
Update yum database with dnf
using the following command.
sudo dnf makecache
After updating yum database, We can install octave
using dnf
by running the following command:
sudo dnf -y install octave
How To Uninstall octave on CentOS 7
To uninstall only the octave
package we can use the following command:
sudo dnf remove octave
