How To Install oclgrind on Kali Linux

What is oclgrind

oclgrind is:

Oclgrind is an extensible OpenCL device simulator that provides a plugin interface to facilitate the creation of tools to aid analysis and development of OpenCL programs. Among the tools that Oclgrind provides are various debugging aids, such as out-of-bounds memory access checking, data-race detection, and an interactive debugger.

Oclgrind implements the OpenCL 1.2 runtime API, which makes simulating an existing OpenCL program very straightforward - simply prefix your usual application command-line with ‘oclgrind’. There is also a simple interface for simulating individual kernels in isolation via the ‘oclgrind-kernel’ command.

There are three methods to install oclgrind on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install oclgrind Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install oclgrind using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install oclgrind

Install oclgrind Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install oclgrind using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install oclgrind

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install oclgrind using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install oclgrind

How To Uninstall oclgrind on Kali Linux

To uninstall only the oclgrind package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove oclgrind

Uninstall oclgrind And Its Dependencies

To uninstall oclgrind and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove oclgrind

Remove oclgrind Configurations and Data

To remove oclgrind configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge oclgrind

Remove oclgrind configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove oclgrind configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge oclgrind
