What is ocfs2-tools

OCFS2 is a general purpose cluster filesystem. Unlike the initial release of OCFS, which supported only Oracle database workloads, OCFS2 provides full support as a general purpose filesystem. OCFS2 is a complete rewrite of the previous version, designed to work as a seamless addition to the Linux kernel.

This package installs the tools to manage the OCFS2 filesystem, including mkfs, tunefs, fsck, debugfs, and the utilities to control the O2CB clustering stack.

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install ocfs2-tools using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install ocfs2-tools

How To Uninstall ocfs2-tools on Ubuntu 18.04

To uninstall only the ocfs2-tools package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove ocfs2-tools

To uninstall ocfs2-tools and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove ocfs2-tools

Remove ocfs2-tools Configurations and Data

To remove ocfs2-tools configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge ocfs2-tools

Remove ocfs2-tools configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove ocfs2-tools configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge ocfs2-tools
