How To Install ocaml-base on Debian 9

on Debian 9.
What is ocaml-base
ocaml-base is:
Objective Caml (OCaml) is an implementation of the ML language, based on the Caml Light dialect extended with a complete class-based object system and a powerful module system in the style of Standard ML.
This package contains only the runtime system needed to run bytecode executables. The ‘ocaml’ package contains the full development suite of Objective Caml. You may wish to install the ‘ocaml-base-nox’ package if you do not require any graphical capabilities for your runtime.
There are three methods to install ocaml-base
on Debian 9. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install ocaml-base Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install ocaml-base
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install ocaml-base

Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install ocaml-base
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install ocaml-base
Install ocaml-base Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install ocaml-base
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install ocaml-base
How To Uninstall ocaml-base on Debian 9
To uninstall only the ocaml-base
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove ocaml-base
Uninstall ocaml-base And Its Dependencies
To uninstall ocaml-base
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 9, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove ocaml-base
Remove ocaml-base Configurations and Data
To remove ocaml-base
configuration and data from Debian 9 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge ocaml-base
Remove ocaml-base configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove ocaml-base
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge ocaml-base
