In this tutorial we learn how to install nyx on Debian 12.

What is nyx

nyx is:

The anonymizing relay monitor is a terminal status monitor for Tor relays, intended for command-line aficionados, ssh connections, and anyone stuck with a tty terminal. This works much like top does for system usage, providing real time statistics for:

  • bandwidth, cpu, and memory usage
  • relay’s current configuration
  • logged events
  • connection details (ip, hostname, fingerprint, and consensus data)
  • etc.

nyx was previously named tor-arm (which is now a transitional package).

There are three methods to install nyx on Debian 12. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install nyx Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install nyx using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install nyx
