on CentOS 7.
What is nwipe
The nwipe is a command that will securely erase disks using a variety of recognized methods. It is a fork of the dwipe command used by Darik’s Boot and Nuke (dban). Nwipe was created out of need to run the DBAN dwipe command outside of DBAN. This allows it to use any host distribution which gives better hardware support. It is essentially the same as dwipe, with a few changes - pthreads is used instead of fork - The parted library is used to detect drives - The code is designed to be compiled with gcc
We can use yum
or dnf
to install nwipe
on CentOS 7. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install nwipe.
Install nwipe on CentOS 7 Using yum
Update yum database with yum
using the following command.
After updating yum database, We can install nwipe
using yum
by running the following command:

If you don’t have dnf installed you can install DNF on CentOS 7 first.
