What is nvram-wakeup

nvram-wakeup is:

nvram-wakeup can read and write the wake up time in the BIOS (via /dev/nvram on recent 2.4.x kernels or direct I/O port access). On this wake up time the computer will be powered on automatically from the soft-off state. For the video disc recorder VDR, nvram-wakeup installs a hook script, that allows VDR to set a wake up time, when it powers down.

There are three methods to install nvram-wakeup on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install nvram-wakeup Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install nvram-wakeup using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install nvram-wakeup

Install nvram-wakeup Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install nvram-wakeup using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install nvram-wakeup

Install nvram-wakeup Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install nvram-wakeup using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install nvram-wakeup
