How To Install nvi on Kali Linux
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install nvi on Kali Linux.
What is nvi
nvi is:
Vi is the original screen based text editor for Unix systems. It is considered the standard text editor, and is available on almost all Unix systems.
Nvi is intended as a “bug-for-bug compatible” clone of the original BSD vi editor. As such, it doesn’t have a lot of snazzy features as do some of the other vi clones such as elvis and vim. However, if all you want is vi, this is the one to get.
There are three methods to install nvi on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install nvi Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install nvi using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install nviInstall nvi Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt updateAfter updating apt database, We can install nvi using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install nviInstall nvi Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude updateAfter updating apt database, We can install nvi using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install nviHow To Uninstall nvi on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the nvi package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove nviUninstall nvi And Its Dependencies
To uninstall nvi and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove nviRemove nvi Configurations and Data
To remove nvi configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge nviRemove nvi configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove nvi configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge nviDependencies
