How To Install numpy on CentOS 7

In this tutorial we learn how to install numpy on CentOS 7. numpy is A fast multidimensional array facility for Python

Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install numpy on CentOS 7.

What is numpy

NumPy is a general-purpose array-processing package designed to efficiently manipulate large multi-dimensional arrays of arbitrary records without sacrificing too much speed for small multi-dimensional arrays. NumPy is built on the Numeric code base and adds features introduced by numarray as well as an extended C-API and the ability to create arrays of arbitrary type. There are also basic facilities for discrete fourier transform, basic linear algebra and random number generation. Also included in this package is a version of f2py that works properly with NumPy.

We can use yum or dnf to install numpy on CentOS 7. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install numpy.

Install numpy on CentOS 7 Using yum

Update yum database with yum using the following command.

sudo yum makecache

After updating yum database, We can install numpy using yum by running the following command:

sudo yum -y install numpy

Install numpy on CentOS 7 Using dnf

If you don’t have dnf installed you can install DNF on CentOS 7 first. Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache

After updating yum database, We can install numpy using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install numpy

How To Uninstall numpy on CentOS 7

To uninstall only the numpy package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove numpy
