In this tutorial we learn how to install nted on Kali Linux.

What is nted

nted is:

NtEd is a GTK+ score editor. It intends to be really WYSIWYG: what you see on the screen is exactly what you get on printer output. It supports up to 4 voices per staff, drum notes, 5 lyrics lines, N-Tuplets, context changes, repeats with alternatives, configurable music instruments per staff, MIDI / MusicXML import, PS / PDF / SVG / PNG / Lilypond / MIDI export. Scores can be played through the ALSA sequencer.

There are three methods to install nted on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install nted Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install nted using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install nted

Install nted Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install nted using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install nted

Install nted Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
