What is nstreams

nstreams is:

Nstreams is a utility designed to identify the IP streams that are occurring on a network from a non-user friendly tcpdump output of several megabytes. This is especially useful when you plan to install a firewall but if you do not know the nstreams that the network users are generating (http, real audio, and more…).

Nstreams can read the tcpdump output directly from stdin, or from a file. It can even generate the configuration file of your firewall.

There are three methods to install nstreams on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install nstreams Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install nstreams using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install nstreams

Install nstreams Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install nstreams using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install nstreams

Install nstreams Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install nstreams using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install nstreams

sudo apt-get remove nstreams

To uninstall nstreams and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove nstreams

Remove nstreams Configurations and Data

To remove nstreams configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge nstreams
