In this tutorial we learn how to install nss on CentOS 7.

What is nss

Network Security Services (NSS) is a set of libraries designed to support cross-platform development of security-enabled client and server applications. Applications built with NSS can support SSL v2 and v3, TLS, PKCS #5, PKCS #7, PKCS #11, PKCS #12, S/MIME, X.509 v3 certificates, and other security standards.

We can use yum or dnf to install nss on CentOS 7. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install nss.

Install nss on CentOS 7 Using yum

Update yum database with yum using the following command.

sudo yum makecache

After updating yum database, We can install nss using yum by running the following command:

sudo yum -y install nss

Install nss on CentOS 7 Using dnf

If you don’t have dnf installed you can install DNF on CentOS 7 first. Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache

After updating yum database, We can install nss using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install nss

How To Uninstall nss on CentOS 7

To uninstall only the nss package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove nss
