How To Install ns3 on Debian 9

What is ns3
ns3 is:
ns-3 is a discrete-event network simulator for Internet systems, targeted primarily for research and educational use. ns-3 is free software, licensed under the GNU GPLv2 license, and is publicly available for research, development, and use. ns-3 is intended as an eventual replacement for the popular ns-2 simulator. The project acronym ??nsnam?? derives historically from the concatenation of ns (network simulator) and NAM (network animator).
This package contains several utilities. The files for development are in libns3-3, libns3-dev and python-ns3.
There are three methods to install ns3 on Debian 9. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install ns3 Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install ns3 using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install ns3
Install ns3 Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install ns3 using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install ns3
Install ns3 Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install ns3 using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install ns3
How To Uninstall ns3 on Debian 9
To uninstall only the ns3 package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove ns3
Uninstall ns3 And Its Dependencies
To uninstall ns3 and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 9, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove ns3
Remove ns3 Configurations and Data
To remove ns3 configuration and data from Debian 9 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge ns3
Remove ns3 configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove ns3 configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge ns3
