How To Install nova-compute-lxd on Ubuntu 18.04

What is nova-compute-lxd

OpenStack is a reliable cloud infrastructure. Its mission is to produce the ubiquitous cloud computing platform that will meet the needs of public and private cloud providers regardless of size, by being simple to implement and massively scalable.
OpenStack Compute, codenamed Nova, is a cloud computing fabric controller. In addition to its “native” API (the OpenStack API), it also supports the Amazon EC2 API.
Nova is intended to be modular and easy to extend and adapt. It supports many different hypervisors (KVM and Xen to name a few), different database backends (SQLite, MySQL, and PostgreSQL, for instance), different types of user databases (LDAP or SQL), etc.
This package provides common dependencies and setup for the LXD container hypervisor, providing a secure way to run instances as LXC containers under OpenStack.
There are three methods to install nova-compute-lxd on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install nova-compute-lxd Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install nova-compute-lxd using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install nova-compute-lxd
Install nova-compute-lxd Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install nova-compute-lxd using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install nova-compute-lxd
Install nova-compute-lxd Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install nova-compute-lxd using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install nova-compute-lxd
How To Uninstall nova-compute-lxd on Ubuntu 18.04
To uninstall only the nova-compute-lxd package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove nova-compute-lxd
Uninstall nova-compute-lxd And Its Dependencies
To uninstall nova-compute-lxd and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove nova-compute-lxd
Remove nova-compute-lxd Configurations and Data
To remove nova-compute-lxd configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge nova-compute-lxd
Remove nova-compute-lxd configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove nova-compute-lxd configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge nova-compute-lxd
