How To Install node-ws on Ubuntu 18.04
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install node-ws on Ubuntu 18.04.
What is node-ws
node-ws is:
ws is a simple to use websocket implementation, up-to-date against RFC-6455, and probably the fastest WebSocket library for Node.js.
Passes the quite extensive Autobahn test suite. See http://einaros.github.com/ws for the full reports.
It also provides wscat, a command-line tool which can either act as a server or a client, and is useful for debugging websocket services.
Node.js is an event-based server-side javascript engine.
There are three methods to install node-ws on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install node-ws Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install node-ws using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install node-ws
Install node-ws Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install node-ws using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install node-ws
Install node-ws Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install node-ws using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install node-ws
How To Uninstall node-ws on Ubuntu 18.04
To uninstall only the node-ws package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove node-ws
Uninstall node-ws And Its Dependencies
To uninstall node-ws and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove node-ws
Remove node-ws Configurations and Data
To remove node-ws configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge node-ws
Remove node-ws configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove node-ws configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge node-ws
