How To Install nipper-ng on Kali Linux

In this tutorial we learn how to install nipper-ng on Kali Linux.

What is nipper-ng

nipper-ng is:

Nipper-ng is the next generation of nippper, and will always remain free and open source. This software will be used to make observations about the security configurations of many different device types such as routers, firewalls, and switches of a network infrastructure.

This is a fork from nipper 0.11.10 release of the GNUv3 GPL code.

There are three methods to install nipper-ng on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install nipper-ng Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install nipper-ng using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install nipper-ng

Install nipper-ng Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install nipper-ng using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install nipper-ng

Install nipper-ng Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install nipper-ng using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install nipper-ng

How To Uninstall nipper-ng on Kali Linux

To uninstall only the nipper-ng package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove nipper-ng

Uninstall nipper-ng And Its Dependencies

To uninstall nipper-ng and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove nipper-ng

Remove nipper-ng Configurations and Data

To remove nipper-ng configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge nipper-ng

Remove nipper-ng configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove nipper-ng configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge nipper-ng
