How To Install nginx-extras on Debian 9

What is nginx-extras
nginx-extras is:
Nginx (“engine X”) is a high-performance web and reverse proxy server created by Igor Sysoev. It can be used both as a standalone web server and as a proxy to reduce the load on back-end HTTP or mail servers.
This package provides a version of nginx with the standard modules, plus extra features and modules such as the Perl module, which allows the addition of Perl in configuration files.
STANDARD HTTP MODULES: Core, Access, Auth Basic, Auto Index, Browser, Empty GIF, FastCGI, Geo, Limit Connections, Limit Requests, Map, Memcached, Proxy, Referer, Rewrite, SCGI, Split Clients, UWSGI.
OPTIONAL HTTP MODULES: Addition, Auth Request, Charset, WebDAV, FLV, GeoIP, Gunzip, Gzip, Gzip Precompression, Headers, HTTP/2, Image Filter, Index, Log, MP4, Embedded Perl, Random Index, Real IP, Slice, Secure Link, SSI, SSL, Stream, Stub Status, Substitution, Thread Pool, Upstream, User ID, XSLT.
MAIL MODULES: Mail Core, Auth HTTP, Proxy, SSL, IMAP, POP3, SMTP.
THIRD PARTY MODULES: Auth PAM, Cache Purge, DAV Ext, Echo, Fancy Index, Headers More, Embedded Lua, HTTP Substitutions, Nchan, Upload Progress, Upstream Fair Queue.
There are three methods to install nginx-extras
on Debian 9. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude

Install nginx-extras Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install nginx-extras
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install nginx-extras
Install nginx-extras Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install nginx-extras
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install nginx-extras
Install nginx-extras Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install nginx-extras
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install nginx-extras
How To Uninstall nginx-extras on Debian 9
To uninstall only the nginx-extras
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove nginx-extras
Uninstall nginx-extras And Its Dependencies
To uninstall nginx-extras
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 9, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove nginx-extras
Remove nginx-extras Configurations and Data
To remove nginx-extras
configuration and data from Debian 9 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge nginx-extras
Remove nginx-extras configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove nginx-extras

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge nginx-extras
