How To Install nfdump on Kali Linux
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install nfdump on Kali Linux.
What is nfdump
nfdump is:
Collects and processes netflow data with command line tools. Collected netflow data is stored in filesystem and is limited by available storage space only. Tools are optimized for speed and filtering. nfcapd reads netflow v5, v7, v9 and IPFIX flows transparently. You need one nfcapd process for each netflow stream.
There are three methods to install nfdump on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install nfdump Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install nfdump using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install nfdumpInstall nfdump Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt updateAfter updating apt database, We can install nfdump using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install nfdumpInstall nfdump Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude updateAfter updating apt database, We can install nfdump using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install nfdumpHow To Uninstall nfdump on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the nfdump package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove nfdumpUninstall nfdump And Its Dependencies
To uninstall nfdump and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove nfdumpRemove nfdump Configurations and Data
To remove nfdump configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge nfdumpRemove nfdump configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove nfdump configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge nfdumpDependencies
