How To Install nextpnr-generic on Debian 12
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install nextpnr-generic on Debian 12.
What is nextpnr-generic
nextpnr-generic is:
nextpnr is a FPGA place and route tool. Its purpose is to turn a topological description of digital hardware produced by an FPGA logic synthesis tool such as yosys into an elaborate map of connections between the hardwired functional units available inside the FPGA’s fabric.
In order to verify the fully implemented design for proper operation at speed timing-analysis of the design is also supported.
nextpnr-generic supports nextpnr’s synthetic “generic” FPGA.
There are three methods to install nextpnr-generic on Debian 12. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install nextpnr-generic Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install nextpnr-generic using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install nextpnr-generic
Install nextpnr-generic Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install nextpnr-generic using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install nextpnr-generic
Install nextpnr-generic Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install nextpnr-generic using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install nextpnr-generic
How To Uninstall nextpnr-generic on Debian 12
To uninstall only the nextpnr-generic package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove nextpnr-generic
Uninstall nextpnr-generic And Its Dependencies
To uninstall nextpnr-generic and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 12, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove nextpnr-generic
Remove nextpnr-generic Configurations and Data
To remove nextpnr-generic configuration and data from Debian 12 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge nextpnr-generic
Remove nextpnr-generic configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove nextpnr-generic configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge nextpnr-generic
