In this tutorial we learn how to install neutron-server on Ubuntu 18.04.

What is neutron-server

neutron-server is:

Neutron is a virtual network service for Openstack, and a part of Netstack. Just like OpenStack Nova provides an API to dynamically request and configure virtual servers, Neutron provides an API to dynamically request and configure virtual networks. These networks connect “interfaces” from other OpenStack services (e.g., virtual NICs from Nova VMs). The Neutron API supports extensions to provide advanced network capabilities (e.g., QoS, ACLs, network monitoring, etc.)

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

After updating apt database, We can install neutron-server using apt by running the following command:

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install neutron-server using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install neutron-server

How To Uninstall neutron-server on Ubuntu 18.04

To uninstall only the neutron-server package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove neutron-server

To uninstall neutron-server and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove neutron-server

Remove neutron-server Configurations and Data

To remove neutron-server configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge neutron-server
