How To Install netcat on Rocky Linux 8

In this tutorial we learn how to install netcat
on Rocky Linux 8.
What is netcat
The OpenBSD nc (or netcat) utility can be used for just about anything involving TCP, UDP, or UNIX-domain sockets. It can open TCP connections, send UDP packets, listen on arbitrary TCP and UDP ports, do port scanning, and deal with both IPv4 and IPv6. Unlike telnet(1), nc scripts nicely, and separates error messages onto standard error instead of sending them to standard output, as telnet(1) might do with some.
We can use yum
or dnf
to install netcat
on Rocky Linux 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install netcat.
Install netcat on Rocky Linux 8 Using dnf
Update yum database with dnf
using the following command.
sudo dnf makecache --refresh
After updating yum database, We can install netcat
using dnf
by running the following command:
sudo dnf -y install netcat
Install netcat on Rocky Linux 8 Using yum
Update yum database with yum
using the following command.
sudo yum makecache --refresh
After updating yum database, We can install netcat
using yum
by running the following command:
sudo yum -y install netcat
How To Uninstall netcat on Rocky Linux 8
To uninstall only the netcat
package we can use the following command:
sudo dnf remove netcat
