How To Install net-snmp on CentOS 7
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install net-snmp on CentOS 7.
What is net-snmp
SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) is a protocol used for network management. The NET-SNMP project includes various SNMP tools or setting information from SNMP agents, tools for generating and handling SNMP traps, a version of the netstat command which uses SNMP, and a Tk/Perl mib browser. This package contains the snmpd and snmptrapd daemons, documentation, etc. You will probably also want to install the net-snmp-utils package, which contains NET-SNMP utilities.
We can use yum or dnf to install net-snmp on CentOS 7. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install net-snmp.
Install net-snmp on CentOS 7 Using yum
Update yum database with yum using the following command.
sudo yum makecache
After updating yum database, We can install net-snmp using yum by running the following command:
sudo yum -y install net-snmp
Install net-snmp on CentOS 7 Using dnf
If you don’t have dnf installed you can install DNF on CentOS 7 first.
Update yum database with dnf using the following command.
sudo dnf makecache
After updating yum database, We can install net-snmp using dnf by running the following command:
sudo dnf -y install net-snmp
How To Uninstall net-snmp on CentOS 7
To uninstall only the net-snmp package we can use the following command:
sudo dnf remove net-snmp
