How To Install needrestart on Kali Linux
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install needrestart on Kali Linux.
What is needrestart
needrestart is:
needrestart checks which daemons need to be restarted after library upgrades. It is inspired by checkrestart from the debian-goodies package.
Features:
- supports (but does not require) systemd
- binary blacklisting (i.e. display managers)
- tries to detect required restarts of interpreter based daemons (supports Java, Perl, Python, Ruby)
- tries to detect required restarts of containers (docker, LXC)
- tries to detect pending kernel upgrades
- tries to detect pending microcode upgrades for Intel CPUs
- could be used as nagios check_command
- fully integrated into apt/dpkg using hooks
There are three methods to install needrestart on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install needrestart Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install needrestart using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install needrestartInstall needrestart Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt updateAfter updating apt database, We can install needrestart using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install needrestartInstall needrestart Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude updateAfter updating apt database, We can install needrestart using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install needrestartHow To Uninstall needrestart on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the needrestart package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove needrestartUninstall needrestart And Its Dependencies
To uninstall needrestart and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove needrestartRemove needrestart Configurations and Data
To remove needrestart configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge needrestartRemove needrestart configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove needrestart configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
