What is ncl

NCAR Command Language (NCL) is an interpreted language designed specifically for scientific data processing and visualization. Portable, robust, and free, NCL supports netCDF3/4, GRIB1/2, HDF-SDS, HDF4-EOS, binary, shapefiles, and ASCII files. Numerous analysis functions are built-in. High quality graphics are easily created and customized with hundreds of graphic resources. Many example scripts and their corresponding graphics are available.

We can use yum or dnf to install ncl on CentOS 7. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install ncl.

Install ncl on CentOS 7 Using yum

Update yum database with yum using the following command.

sudo yum makecache

After updating yum database, We can install ncl using yum by running the following command:

sudo yum -y install ncl

Install ncl on CentOS 7 Using dnf

If you don’t have dnf installed you can install DNF on CentOS 7 first. Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache

After updating yum database, We can install ncl using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install ncl

How To Uninstall ncl on CentOS 7

To uninstall only the ncl package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove ncl
