How To Install navit-gui-gtk on Ubuntu 18.04

In this tutorial we learn how to install navit-gui-gtk on Ubuntu 18.04.
What is navit-gui-gtk
navit-gui-gtk is:
Navit is a car navigation system with routing engine.
Its modular design is capable of using vector maps of various formats for routing and rendering of the displayed map. It’s even possible to use multiple maps at a time.
The GTK+ or SDL user interfaces are designed to work well with touch screen displays. Points of Interest of various formats are displayed on the map.
The current vehicle position is either read from gpsd or directly from NMEA GPS sensors.
The routing engine not only calculates an optimal route to your destination, but also generates directions and even speaks to you using speech-dispatcher.
This package contains the GTK+ GUI plugin.
There are three methods to install navit-gui-gtk on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install navit-gui-gtk Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install navit-gui-gtk using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install navit-gui-gtk
Install navit-gui-gtk Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install navit-gui-gtk using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install navit-gui-gtk
Install navit-gui-gtk Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install navit-gui-gtk using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install navit-gui-gtk
How To Uninstall navit-gui-gtk on Ubuntu 18.04
To uninstall only the navit-gui-gtk package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove navit-gui-gtk
Uninstall navit-gui-gtk And Its Dependencies
To uninstall navit-gui-gtk and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove navit-gui-gtk
Remove navit-gui-gtk Configurations and Data
To remove navit-gui-gtk configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge navit-gui-gtk
Remove navit-gui-gtk configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove navit-gui-gtk configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge navit-gui-gtk
