How To Install navit-data on Debian 9
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install navit-data
on Debian 9.
What is navit-data
navit-data is:
Navit is a car navigation system with routing engine.
Its modular design is capable of using vector maps of various formats for routing and rendering of the displayed map. It’s even possible to use multiple maps at a time.
The GTK+ or SDL user interfaces are designed to work well with touch screen displays. Points of Interest of various formats are displayed on the map.
The current vehicle position is either read from gpsd or directly from NMEA GPS sensors.
The routing engine not only calculates an optimal route to your destination, but also generates directions and even speaks to you using speech-dispatcher.
This package contains the architecture independent files - mainly translation files and images - for navit.
There are three methods to install navit-data
on Debian 9. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install navit-data Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install navit-data
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install navit-data

Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install navit-data
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install navit-data
Install navit-data Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install navit-data
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install navit-data
How To Uninstall navit-data on Debian 9
To uninstall only the navit-data
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove navit-data
Uninstall navit-data And Its Dependencies
To uninstall navit-data
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 9, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove navit-data
Remove navit-data Configurations and Data
To remove navit-data
configuration and data from Debian 9 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge navit-data
Remove navit-data configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove navit-data
