How To Install nautilus-compare on Ubuntu 18.04

In this tutorial we learn how to install nautilus-compare on Ubuntu 18.04.
What is nautilus-compare
nautilus-compare is:
Simple context menu file comparison extension for Nautilus 3 and above, inspired by the discontinued ‘diff-ext’ extension. By default it uses ‘meld’ to do the comparison and provides “Compare”, “Compare to ~/foo/bar” and “Compare Later” in Nautilus context menu. Using the configurator tool you can choose your favourite compare tool for one-on-one, three-way and multi-compare situations.
There are three methods to install nautilus-compare on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install nautilus-compare Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install nautilus-compare using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install nautilus-compare
Install nautilus-compare Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install nautilus-compare using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install nautilus-compare
Install nautilus-compare Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install nautilus-compare using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install nautilus-compare
How To Uninstall nautilus-compare on Ubuntu 18.04
To uninstall only the nautilus-compare package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove nautilus-compare
Uninstall nautilus-compare And Its Dependencies
To uninstall nautilus-compare and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove nautilus-compare
Remove nautilus-compare Configurations and Data
To remove nautilus-compare configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge nautilus-compare
Remove nautilus-compare configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove nautilus-compare configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge nautilus-compare
