What is mysql-server
MySQL is a multi-user, multi-threaded SQL database server. MySQL is a client/server implementation consisting of a server daemon (mysqld) and many different client programs and libraries. This package contains the MySQL server and some accompanying files and directories.
We can use yum or dnf to install mysql-server on AlmaLinux 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install mysql-server.
Install mysql-server on AlmaLinux 8 Using dnf
Update yum database with dnf using the following command.
sudo dnf makecache --refresh
After updating yum database, We can install mysql-server using dnf by running the following command:
sudo dnf -y install mysql-server
Install mysql-server on AlmaLinux 8 Using yum
Update yum database with yum using the following command.
sudo yum makecache --refresh
After updating yum database, We can install mysql-server using yum by running the following command:
sudo yum -y install mysql-server
How To Uninstall mysql-server on AlmaLinux 8
To uninstall only the mysql-server package we can use the following command:
sudo dnf remove mysql-server
