How To Install mysql-client on Ubuntu 18.04

What is mysql-client
mysql-client is:
This is an empty package that depends on the current “best” version of mysql-client (currently mysql-client-5.7), as determined by the MySQL maintainers. Install this package if in doubt about which MySQL version you want, as this is the one considered to be in the best shape by the Maintainers.
There are three methods to install mysql-client
on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install mysql-client Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install mysql-client
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install mysql-client
Install mysql-client Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install mysql-client
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install mysql-client
Install mysql-client Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install mysql-client
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install mysql-client
How To Uninstall mysql-client on Ubuntu 18.04
To uninstall only the mysql-client
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove mysql-client
Uninstall mysql-client And Its Dependencies
To uninstall mysql-client
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove mysql-client
Remove mysql-client Configurations and Data
To remove mysql-client
configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge mysql-client
Remove mysql-client configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove mysql-client
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge mysql-client
