How To Install multistrap on Kali Linux

Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install multistrap on Kali Linux.

What is multistrap

multistrap is:

A debootstrap replacement with multiple repository support, using apt to handle all dependency issues and conflicts.

Multistrap includes support for native and foreign architecture bootstrap environments. Foreign bootstraps only need minimal configuration on the final device. Also supports cleaning up the generated bootstrap filesystem to remove downloaded packages and hooks to modify the files in the bootstrap filesystem after the packages have been unpacked but before being configured.

Unlike debootstrap, multistrap relies on working versions of dpkg and apt outside the final filesystem. If dpkg supports MultiArch, foreign architecture libraries can be installed, where available.

There are three methods to install multistrap on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install multistrap Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install multistrap using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install multistrap

Install multistrap Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install multistrap using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install multistrap

Install multistrap Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install multistrap using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install multistrap

How To Uninstall multistrap on Kali Linux

To uninstall only the multistrap package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove multistrap

Uninstall multistrap And Its Dependencies

To uninstall multistrap and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove multistrap

Remove multistrap Configurations and Data

To remove multistrap configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge multistrap

Remove multistrap configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove multistrap configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge multistrap
