What is mt-st

mt-st is:

Mt-st contains a version of “mt” that is aware of Linux’s SCSI tape driver. Mt-st is able to set some esoteric control flags like tape partitions.

Mt-st provides an alternative to the GNU version of mt, in the cpio package.

It also comes with stinit, a program to be run at boot time to set up tape defaults.

There are three methods to install mt-st on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install mt-st Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install mt-st using apt-get by running the following command:
