How To Install mpich on Debian 10

In this tutorial we learn how to install mpich on Debian 10.
What is mpich
mpich is:
MPICH is a high-performance and widely portable implementation of the MPI-3.1 standard from the Argonne National Laboratory. It efficiently supports different computation and communication platforms including commodity clusters, SMPs, massively parallel systems, and high-speed networks. This release has all MPI 3.1 functions and features required by the standard with the exception of support for the “external32” portable I/O format and user-defined data representations for I/O.
This package includes the program binaries necessary to run MPICH programs.
There are three methods to install mpich on Debian 10. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install mpich Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install mpich using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install mpich
Install mpich Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install mpich using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install mpich
Install mpich Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install mpich using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install mpich
How To Uninstall mpich on Debian 10
To uninstall only the mpich package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove mpich
Uninstall mpich And Its Dependencies
To uninstall mpich and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 10, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove mpich
Remove mpich Configurations and Data
To remove mpich configuration and data from Debian 10 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge mpich
Remove mpich configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove mpich configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge mpich
