How To Install mpb-mpi on Ubuntu 18.04

The MIT Photonic-Bands package is a free program for computing the band structures (dispersion relations) and electromagnetic modes of periodic dielectric structures, on both serial and parallel computers. It was developed by Steven G. Johnson at MIT in the Joannopoulos Ab Initio Physics group, and designed to study photonic crystal structures.
This package contains a parallel version of MPB, using the mpich implementation of the MPI protocol. It allows for calculations on clusters of computers.
There are three methods to install mpb-mpi on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install mpb-mpi Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install mpb-mpi using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install mpb-mpi
Install mpb-mpi Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install mpb-mpi using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install mpb-mpi
Install mpb-mpi Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install mpb-mpi using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install mpb-mpi
How To Uninstall mpb-mpi on Ubuntu 18.04
To uninstall only the mpb-mpi package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove mpb-mpi
Uninstall mpb-mpi And Its Dependencies
To uninstall mpb-mpi and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove mpb-mpi
Remove mpb-mpi Configurations and Data
To remove mpb-mpi configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge mpb-mpi
Remove mpb-mpi configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove mpb-mpi configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge mpb-mpi
