What is mod_auth_ntlm_winbind

The mod_auth_ntlm_winbind module allows authentication and authorisation over the Web against a Windows NT/AD domain controllers, using Samba on the same machine Apache is running on. It uses “ntlm_auth” helper utility to operate with local winbindd(8) daemon, which are standard parts of the Samba distribution. The same way Squid does NTLM authentication now.

We can use yum or dnf to install mod_auth_ntlm_winbind on CentOS 7. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install mod_auth_ntlm_winbind.

Install mod_auth_ntlm_winbind on CentOS 7 Using yum

Update yum database with yum using the following command.

sudo yum makecache

After updating yum database, We can install mod_auth_ntlm_winbind using yum by running the following command:

sudo yum -y install mod_auth_ntlm_winbind

Install mod_auth_ntlm_winbind on CentOS 7 Using dnf

If you don’t have dnf installed you can install DNF on CentOS 7 first. Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache

After updating yum database, We can install mod_auth_ntlm_winbind using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install mod_auth_ntlm_winbind

How To Uninstall mod_auth_ntlm_winbind on CentOS 7

To uninstall only the mod_auth_ntlm_winbind package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove mod_auth_ntlm_winbind
