How To Install mingw-w64 on Ubuntu 20.04

on Ubuntu 20.04.
What is mingw-w64
mingw-w64 is:
MinGW-w64 provides a development and runtime environment for 32- and 64-bit (x86 and x64) Windows applications using the Windows API and the GNU Compiler Collection (gcc).
This metapackage provides the MinGW-w64 development environment, including C and C++ compilers. Ada, Fortran, Objective-C and Objective-C++ compilers are available respectively in the gnat-mingw-w64, gfortran-mingw-w64, gobjc-mingw-w64 and gojbc++-mingw-w64 packages.
There are three methods to install mingw-w64
on Ubuntu 20.04. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install mingw-w64 Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install mingw-w64
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install mingw-w64
Install mingw-w64 Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install mingw-w64
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install mingw-w64
Install mingw-w64 Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install mingw-w64
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install mingw-w64
How To Uninstall mingw-w64 on Ubuntu 20.04
To uninstall only the mingw-w64
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove mingw-w64
Uninstall mingw-w64 And Its Dependencies
To uninstall mingw-w64
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 20.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove mingw-w64
Remove mingw-w64 Configurations and Data
To remove mingw-w64
configuration and data from Ubuntu 20.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge mingw-w64
Remove mingw-w64 configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove mingw-w64
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge mingw-w64
