What is mftrace

mftrace is a small Python program that lets you trace a TeX bitmap font into a PFA or PFB font (A PostScript Type1 Scalable Font) or TTF (TrueType) font. Scalable fonts offer many advantages over bitmaps, as they allow documents to render correctly at many printer resolutions. Moreover, Ghostscript can generate much better PDF, if given scalable PostScript fonts.

We can use yum or dnf to install mftrace on CentOS 7. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install mftrace.

Install mftrace on CentOS 7 Using yum

Update yum database with yum using the following command.

sudo yum makecache

After updating yum database, We can install mftrace using yum by running the following command:

sudo yum -y install mftrace

Install mftrace on CentOS 7 Using dnf

If you don’t have dnf installed you can install DNF on CentOS 7 first. Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache

After updating yum database, We can install mftrace using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install mftrace

How To Uninstall mftrace on CentOS 7

To uninstall only the mftrace package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove mftrace
