How To Install metis on CentOS 7

In this tutorial we learn how to install metis on CentOS 7. metis is Serial Graph Partitioning and Fill-reducing Matrix Ordering

Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install metis on CentOS 7.

What is metis

METIS is a set of serial programs for partitioning graphs, partitioning finite element meshes, and producing fill reducing orderings for sparse matrices. The algorithms implemented in METIS are based on the multilevel recursive-bisection, multilevel k-way, and multi-constraint partitioning schemes developed in our lab. METIS is distributed with OpenMP support.

We can use yum or dnf to install metis on CentOS 7. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install metis.

Install metis on CentOS 7 Using yum

Update yum database with yum using the following command.

sudo yum makecache

After updating yum database, We can install metis using yum by running the following command:

sudo yum -y install metis

Install metis on CentOS 7 Using dnf

If you don’t have dnf installed you can install DNF on CentOS 7 first. Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache

After updating yum database, We can install metis using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install metis

How To Uninstall metis on CentOS 7

To uninstall only the metis package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove metis
