How To Install metastore on Kali Linux
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install metastore on Kali Linux.
What is metastore
metastore is:
metastore is a tool to store the metadata of files/directories/links in a file tree to a separate file and to later compare and apply the stored metadata to said file tree.
The tool was written as a supplement to git which does not store all metadata, making it unsuitable for e.g. storing /etc in a repo.
metastore can also be helpful in a backup script if you want to create a tarball of a file tree and make sure that “everything” (e.g. xattrs, mtime, owner, group) is stored along with the files.
There are three methods to install metastore on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install metastore Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install metastore using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install metastoreInstall metastore Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt updateAfter updating apt database, We can install metastore using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install metastoreInstall metastore Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude updateAfter updating apt database, We can install metastore using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install metastoreHow To Uninstall metastore on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the metastore package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove metastoreUninstall metastore And Its Dependencies
To uninstall metastore and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove metastoreRemove metastore Configurations and Data
To remove metastore configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge metastoreRemove metastore configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove metastore configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge metastoreDependencies
